Q. How exactly do I install the program?

A. You must run the "server" and "client" installs separately. The server install should be done first. You run the setup program, install to a chosen directory, and then start the server program (messerv.exe). Once the server is running, you should see a blue icon in the lower right hand corner. The server part does not have to be installed on your file server - it can be on any machine you choose.

You then run the client setup program. Install the client to a directory of your choice. The client does not need to be installed to a shared directory like the older (4.x) version. Once you enter your user name, you must enter the ip address of the messaging server. You should then see "Connected As: <YOUR NAME>" in the lower right hand corner of the messaging program.

Q. Does the program work with "DHCP" enabled networks.

A. Yes, there are no compatilbility issues with DHCP enabled networks.

Q. I started the program, but only see "NOT CONNECTED" on the bottom of the program.

A. Most probable cause is that you did not specify the correct ip address or the server is not actually running. There have been some problems with "spaces" getting into the ip address. Check to make sure there are not spaces. Check to see that you can ping the server.

Q. What does it mean to have my receive verification level set to high?

A. When set to high, it means that if you click on "Discard", then a message will be sent back to the sender saying that you clicked on discard. The sender also has the option to block these 'Discard Messages' if he or she chooses.

Q. What is the maximum message size I can send?

A. 4000 characters can be contained in a given message.

Q. I just installed a new client, but other users cannot see this person on their "send list"

A. The clients refresh their send list every 5 minutes or so. It could take up to five minutes for other users to see the new user.

Q. Does the program work with Citrix Winframe or Citrix XP ?

A. Yes, the client can install or a Metaframe server. Multiple users can run the program from the Metaframe server at the same time.

Q. Can users from home on dial up or cable modem connect to the messaging server.

A. Yes, users from home must specify the exsternal ip address of your server. This may be the address of your router ro dsl modem, if you are running NAT with port forwarding.
